Wonderful first edition of the Magellan Cup!

 

The first edition of the Magellan Cup has come to an end, after two days of active team racing between the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Yacht Club Argentino.

The Opening Ceremony was on December 11th at the historic main building of YCA’s Dársena Norte venue. Jorge Álvarez Gallesio – Chairman of the Magellan Cup, T J R Sheldon – Commodore of the RYS and Diego Peralta Ramos – Commodore of the YCA, said a few words, emphasizing on the values of friendship and sportsmanship that this event pursues.

December 12th was the first day of racing and had amazing conditions. The eight races scheduled were completed with a 6-2 victory for the Royal Yacht Squadron. YCA Team couldn’t grief for much longer because the open bar was waiting as soon as they jumped off the water.

The Commodore’s Dinner was held that same night with remarkable personalities that included Britain’s Ambassador in Argentina, Mark Kent and Argentinian famous boat designer Germán Frers. Commodores from both clubs addressed to the public thanking everyone for their presence and effort organizing the event. They exchanged pennants from each club hoping that this first Magellan Cup will be the beginning of a fruitful and lasting relationship.

On Thursday races were cancelled due to the bad weather, but on Friday the sun rose and the wind blew. Ten races were completed with and the Royal Yacht Squadron was declared Champion of the first edition of the Magellan Cup.

Prize giving was held on the main building where medals and cups were given. The RYS gave the Hiscox Trophy and the Mackinlay from the YCA.

And this is the end of an amazing first edition of the Magellan Cup. We leave with the promise of a future full of events where this friendship will grow.

 

Espectacular primera edición de la Magellan Cup

 

Finalizó la primera edición de la Magellan Cup, después de dos activos días de regatas por equipos entre el Royal Yacht Squadron y el Yacht Club Argentino.

El 11 de diciembre se realizó la Ceremonia de Apertura en el edificio social histórico de Dársena Norte. Jorge Álvarez Gallesio – Chairman de la Magellan Cup, T J R Sheldon – Comodoro del RYS y Diego Peralta Ramos – Comodoro del YCA dijeron unas palabras hacienda énfasis en los valores de amistad y sportsmanship en los que se basa este evento.

El 12 de diciembre fue el primer día de regatas con condiciones inmejorables. Se completaron las ocho regatas programadas con una victoria de 6-2 para el RYS. El equipo del YCA no tuvo mucho tiempo para lamentarse porque apenas regresaron del agua los esperaba el open bar para compartir un momento de confraternidad con los rivales.

Esa misma noche se desarrolló la Cena de los Comodoros con personalidades notables tales como el embajador inglés, Mark Kent y el diseñador argentino Germán Frers. Los comodoros de ambos clubes agradecieron a todos por su presencia y por la participación en este campeonato. Intercambiaron gallardetes con la confianza de que este evento será el inicio de una relación duradera y amistosa.

El jueves las regatas fueron suspendidas dado el mal clima, pero el Viernes las condiciones fueron ideales nuevamente. Se completaron las regatas programadas y el Royal Yacht Squadron se alzó como ganador de la primera edición de la Magellan Cup.

La entrega de premios se realizó en el edificio social donde se entregaron las copas instituidas por cada club: la Hiscox Trophy del RYS y la Mackinlay del YCA.

Y así termina esta primera edición con la promesa de un futuro lleno de eventos forjados en esta amistad.
